Jonathan Owens is now a proud husband after finally finding out what his wife Simone Biles has accomplished.
The Chicago Bears safety supported the four-time Olympic gold medalist for the second straight day on Sunday as he competed at the 2024 U.S. Olympic Gymnastics Team Trials at Target Center in Minneapolis.
Television cameras captured the moment when Owens, 28, leapt to her feet as Biles, 27, finished her spectacular performance on the uneven bars, and he also roared and applauded after the decorated athlete finished her choreographed floor exercise.
With her performance, Biles secured a place on the U.S. Olympic team for the Paris Olympics. After winning the all-around title with 117.225 points over the two days, this marks her third time on the Olympic team.
Biles confirmed that Owens will be supporting her in Paris for “just a little while” before returning to training camp.
“I think it's really exciting that we can each use our strengths to support each other's dreams and goals,” she said.
“The memories we've made are never going to come back, so anytime we can get together and support each other, it's super exciting because our schedules don't line up that much.”
Owens and Biles began dating in March 2020 and married in April 2023. Owens, an NFL player, sparked backlash in December 2023 when he claimed he was “more attractive” than her.
At first, Biles seemed unfazed by her husband's public comments, even when he became more adamant, saying he had “no idea” who she was before they met on the dating app Raya.
The seven-medal winner eventually admitted she was “devastated” by the backlash Owens received following her comments.
“At first I was amused, then I was hurt,” she said on the “Call Her Daddy” podcast. “I just broke down one night and thought, 'Why is everyone saying this about my husband? You don't know him. You don't know what he's like, and anyone who's met him knows he would do anything for anyone, he's a very sweet person.'”
Biles continued, “It was really hurtful that they were talking about my husband like that. To me, it was like, you can talk all you want about me, but you can't ever talk about my family.”
