On Friday night at the Southwest University Events Center in El Paso, Texas, Fernando “El Ferros” Vargas Jr. knocked down Juan Carlos Cordones twice in the first round to win the WBC FECARBOX super welterweight title.
In the main event, super welterweight Fernando “El Ferros” Vargas Jr. (15-0 (14)) defeated Juan Carlos Cordones (14-5 (9)) in 2 minutes, 58 seconds of the 10th round to win the WBC FECARBOX title.
In the first round, Vargas landed a left to the jaw, knocking Cordones down for the count of 8. Midway through the round, Vargas again hurt Cordones, forcing his corner to throw in the towel and stop the bout.

In the featherweight semifinal, WBC FECARBOX champion Nathan “El Morenito” Rodriguez (15-0 (10), #126) of Pico Rivers, California, knocked out southpaw Jose “Tsunami” Santo (15-5-1 (5)) in the fourth round of a scheduled 10-round bout.
In the first round, the smaller Santo kept the pressure on Rodriguez with his counter jabs, and in the second round, Santo kept Rodriguez on the ropes.
In the third round, Rodriguez finally landed some punches, sending Santo back several times throughout the round, and the bout was stopped between rounds by referee Rocky Burke's cuts.
Lightweight Abel “El Zorro” Mendoza (41-0, 30) defeated Germany’s “El Panteonero” Ivan Melas (65-70-3, 41) in six rounds.
In the third round, Meraz looked very awkward for a fighter with a 40-0 record, and in the fifth round, Meraz jumped towards him to throw a punch.
In the sixth and final round, Melas escapes with a punch to the back of the head. Melas leaps up and misses with a left hook. Mendoza lands a ferocious punch in the final seconds.
The scores were 60-54 and 59-55 both times. The referee was Rocky Burke.
Super bantamweight Santos “Fino” Ortega (8-0 (3)) defeated Roman Garcia (5-1-1 (3)) after six hard-fought rounds.
In the first round, Ortega landed a looping right to Garcia's jaw and switched between orthodox and southpaw, and in the second round, a left uppercut from Ortega opened a cut on Garcia's left eyebrow.
In the fourth round, Garcia came on the offensive, throwing punches to little effect.
In the fifth round, Garcia continued to apply pressure while dodging Ortega's jabs, forcing him to back off and winning the first round. The sixth and final round was a close fight, with Garcia coming forward and Ortega fighting the southpaw, mainly using his jab.
The scores were 59-55 in the second and 60-54 in the second.
Light heavyweight Dominic Matthew Barry (4-0 (4)) stopped Idress “Grump Bear” Wasi (1-4 (1)) at 2 minutes, 36 seconds of the fourth and final round.
In the second round, Barry hurt Eagle with a right punch to the jaw and held out until the final minute.
In the third round, referee Rocky Burke, after several warnings, revoked a point for holding, after Barry repeatedly hit Eagle's jaw with a right hook.
In the fourth and final round, I spat out my mouthpiece for the third time and the bout was stopped by referee Burke.
Super welter Steph Pipers (1-0, 1) made an impressive showing by stopping Ramon Stewart (0-1, 0) at 1 minute, 11 seconds into the first of a scheduled four-round bout.
Pipers knocked his opponent down three times in the first round with a right uppercut and an overhand right before referee Robert Mendez III called the bout off.
