The National ATA Songam Taekwondo team is preparing to represent South Africa at this year's World Championships in Arizona next month – an incredible feat in the world of martial arts.
Global (June 28, 2024) — The day is fast approaching when the ATA Songam Taekwondo National Team will represent South Africa at this year's World Championships in Phoenix, Arizona, where over 2,000 athletes of all ages from around the world will give it their all.
For the Taekwondo teams representing the various parts of South Africa (from Gauteng to Mpumalanga), this is not only a chance to compete skillfully on the world stage, but also a chance to showcase South Africa's martial arts talent – the country has its fair share of talent in martial arts disciplines, from karate to jiu-jitsu.
Captained by Philip Barwise (senior team) and Christopher Swart (junior team), and led by a female coaching team consisting of national coach Anneke Viljoen and assistant coach Lienli Taljaard, the team has been training hard under the guidance of the best in the dojo and are now just a few weeks away from taking on the worlds.
The World Championships will be held from 23rd to 28th July and we would like to ask all South African martial arts enthusiasts to come and support us in every way possible.
Meanwhile, in other sports news that wowed us this week, the South African sevens teams (men's and women's) have qualified to represent our country at the Paris Olympics.
