LAS VEGAS, NV (KOLO) – Reno-born mixed martial artist Peyton Talbot is set to compete at UFC 303 in Las Vegas on Saturday.
Talbot, who has an 8-0 record, is the dominant force in his bantamweight bout against France’s Yannis Ghemri.
According to William Hill Sportsbook, Talbot is the -1600 favorite to win, meaning that someone who bets $1,600 on Talbot will get $1,700 back if Talbot wins.
Talbot posted a video on his YouTube page instructing Gemmori on how to defeat him: he first commands Gemmori to take his leg.
Talbot told journalist Ariel Helwani that he spent about two weeks editing the video, using a computer to translate his words into audio in French.
“I want to fight the best of him and win,” Talbot told Helwani. “It just says, 'Hey, if you want to beat me, this is how you do it. Go out there and give it your all.'”
In the interview published by ESPN, Talbot also disparaged several top bantamweight fighters, calling Sean O'Malley a “pretty boy,” Merab Dvalishvili “stupider than a box of rocks,” Corey Sandhagen “salad fingers” and calling Petr Yan a “hasbro,” a reference to the Russian social media personality affiliated with MMA.
Talbot won Dana White's “Contender” Series and qualified for the UFC in 2023. He began training at the Reno Academy of Combat at age 17.
Talbot will fight on a preliminary card that will stream on ESPN+ and air on ESPN at 5 p.m.
