Where will the 2024 NHL Draft be held?
The 2024 NHL Draft will be held at the Las Vegas Sphere, marking the first event to be broadcast live from the $2.8 billion arena.
“The NHL is proud to bring its first-ever sporting event and first-ever live television broadcast to the Sphere,” NHL senior executive vice president and chief content officer Steve Mayer said in the league's announcement in May.
“Working with the incredible team at Sphere, we plan to deliver an NHL Draft like no other, showcasing hockey's bright future in an innovative and inspiring environment.”
The NHL beat out other professional sports leagues, including the NFL, NBA and MLB, to become the first league to host the draft at this innovative venue.
The Sphere has a capacity of just 18,600, making it the perfect location for a league like the NHL.
For example, the NFL reported that a record-breaking 700,000 people attended its outdoor draft in Detroit this April.
The NBA has held its draft at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for more than a decade, but MLB changes the location of the draft depending on where the All-Star Game is held.
The one-year tie-in between the NHL Draft and the Sphere will be the perfect send-off before next season's draft becomes a “decentralized” event in which teams select players from their home markets.
