Richmond, Virginia – College of William and Mary Field Hockey Alumni Jaden Moon The league announced Wednesday that the team has been selected as the recipient of the prestigious CAA Leadership Sports Excellence Award for 2023-24.
The league presented a total of 21 awards across league-sponsored sports. The awards, presented since 2017-18, mimic the Chuck Boone Leadership Award in football and the Dean Ehlers Leadership Award in men's and women's basketball. The other 21 conference-sponsored sports each selected one student-athlete who demonstrated the highest standards of teamwork, integrity, leadership and sportsmanship in academic and athletic achievement.
After evaluating the nominees, CAA faculty athletic representatives voted to determine the winners, and a total of nine Tribal student-athletes have received the award since its inception in 2017-18.
In the class of 2023, Moon was named to the All-CAA First Team as a starting midfielder and captain. She started all 21 games and helped the Tribe win their second CAA championship. During her senior season, Moon recorded two goals and six assists to lead the Tribe to their second NCAA Tournament victory, defeating Sacred Heart University in the opening game. Moon was also named to the NFHCA All-South Region Second Team and was named to the CAA All-Tournament Team.
The Spotsylvania, Virginia, native was named to the U21 National Team in 2023 and served as a reserve for the Junior Pan American Championship and Junior World Cup teams. She was also selected to compete in the Senior Nexus Championships in the summer of 2022 and 2023.
Academically, Moon was the 2023-24 CAA Institutional Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year and was one of 14 finalists for the Student-Athlete of the Year award. A four-time selection to the NFHCA All-Academic Team and a four-time recipient of the W&M Provost's Award, she was the recipient of W&M's Martha Barksdale Award as an outstanding student and teammate her senior year. She will complete her degree in biology from W&M in May and attend graduate school in veterinary medicine and animal science.
In the community, Moon has volunteered at the Jonathan Allen Marine Institution and Paradock Animal Hospital, and last year she also interned at Ethos Veterinary Health Center.
