PORT ANGELES — Peninsula University men's soccer coach Jake Hughes has found a three-star soccer player in Palm Springs! Not Palm Springs, California, but Palm Springs, Washington, the same as Yakima.
Ezra Ochoa, Noe Garfias and Edwin Diaz led Yakima's Davis High School to third place in the state at last year's 4A state soccer tournament. Ochoa set a school record with 20 goals in a season.

In girls tennis, the Roughriders defeated Bremerton 5-2. In singles, Waverly Meade won 6-1, 6-0 and Bridget Weed won 6-1, 6-2. Emma Murray won 6-0 6-0.
In doubles, Sarah Hancock and Abby Robinson won 6-3, 6-2. Riley Medley and Katie Speller-Crane lost 4-6, 4-6, and Jules Getzin and Lizzie Clark lost 6-10 in a third-set super tiebreak. Kaylee Alward and Abby Riffle won 6-0, 6-2.

On the girls' fast field side, the Port Angeles Roughriders opened the season with an 11-1 victory over Class 3A Central Kitsap in Silverdale.
Natalie Robinson, who has signed with NWAC Columbia Basin, went 3-for-4 with two triples, one home run and four RBIs, earning an early announcement as the state 2A Player of the Year. Lindsey Reed went 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Mikia Stevens went 2/2 with a single, triple and three RBIs.
On the mound, starter Heidi Reitz pitched three innings, striking out four and allowing just one hit. Relief pitcher Lindsey Reed pitched three innings with only two hits and no runs.
