Purdue has reportedly added Southern Illinois University to its football schedule for 2025. FBSchedules first reported the news on Thursday. The Boilermarkers had been looking to add a game next season after UConn asked to reschedule its visit to West Lafayette to 2029.
Purdue will reportedly pay Southern Illinois $500,000 for a trip to Ross-Ade Stadium next season. The game is currently scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 6. The Salukis compete at the FCS level.
During the 2014 season, Southern Illinois University visited West Lafayette College. The Boiler Markers defeated the Salukis 35-13. This was the only time the two schools have faced off against each other.
Purdue is currently scheduled to open its 2025 football season against Ball State on Saturday, Aug. 30. The Boilers will then face Southern Illinois University on Sept. 6 before traveling to South Bend to take on rival Notre Dame on Sept. 20 to close out their non-conference schedule.
Purdue's Big Ten opponents for the 2025 season include Michigan, Minnesota, Northwestern, Illinois, Ohio State, Rutgers, USC, Washington and Indiana.
In 2023, the Boilermarkers finished the season with a 4-8 record under first-year coach Ryan Walters. Purdue will open the 2024 season on Saturday, Aug. 31 with a home game against FCS rival Indiana State.
