With pay-per-view costs $80 (yes, really), you might think Jorge Masvidal would be working overtime promoting his boxing bout with Nate Diaz, scheduled for Saturday, July 6, 2024 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California.
Instead, “Gamebred” just wants to talk about his one-sided rivalry with Conor McGregor.
“He's never mentioned my name once,” Masvidal told MMA Junkie Radio. “He's never spoken to me, he's just saying stupid things, but he's never even talked about a fight with me because he's too scared. If I can't get him to step in the cage with someone he knows he can beat, then what is going to get him to step in the cage with me?”
Sorry, Jorge, but UFC CEO Dana White doesn't like ultimatums.
“He knows I'm not going to beat him. I'm not going to choke him or try to submit him. I'm going to beat him up,” Masvidal continued. “From the moment the bell rings until the end of the fight, I'm going to beat him up while he's standing. I think Conor is analyzing those things and thinking, 'This guy is as mean as he looks and he's as athletic as he is. I don't want to get involved with this guy. He's going to take me out of the fight in a way that I don't want to be taken out of.'”
Take it out and see…..how does it look like this?
“UFC tried to make this fight happen, but Conor doesn't want it,” Masvidal said. “He doesn't want this fight. He's never mentioned my name, but we could be the biggest fight ever. Do you think Michael Chandler could outsell me and Conor? No sane person would think so. I've been one of the most-watched fighters at UFC pay-per-views for the last five or six years. Of course records would be broken, but this guy won't. I don't think this fight is in my future unless I run into him in a parking lot.”
Masvidal’s last parking lot fight didn’t end so well.
The 35-year-old McGregor is currently out fighting with a broken pinky toe and is expected to face fellow TUF 31 coach Michael Chandler on his return, although a timeline for his UFC return will be uncertain until “Notorious” is fully recovered.
