Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev's gym is in trouble. As a dark shadow of fear hangs over Dagestan, authorities have come up with a plan to investigate. This Sunday, two Dagestan cities were red with chaos in coordinated attacks that, according to a CNN report, were likely the work of Islamic extremists.
The attackers targeted places of worship such as churches and synagogues. The official death toll is still unknown, but reports that a priest's throat was slit have sent people into a state of confusion. Interestingly, initial reports have confirmed that one of the five attackers was a mixed martial artist, which was enough reason for the authorities to target EAGLE MMA.
Khabib Nurmagomedov's gym under investigation
According to a report from X's James Porrazzo, the FSB plans to raid all gyms in Dagestan, most notably Eagles MMA. For those who don't know, Eagles MMA is where UFC stars like Khabib Nurmagomedov and Islam Makhachev train. In fact, Makhachev also had Khabib on his side. The gym, set up for the main event of UFC 302, was founded by Khabib himself and is longtime coach of his father, Abdumanap Nurmagomedov.
Unfortunately, things are only getting worse. A report on X reads: “BREAKING: The FSB has announced through Dagestani media that all MMA gyms in Dagestan are being investigated and inspected for religious extremist elements, specifically Eagles MMA, the gym of Islam Makhachev and Khabib Nurmagomedov, where at least one terrorist trained. His campaign is not expected to be “cowardly.””
News like this is undoubtedly shocking to MMA fans, but it actually appears Eagle MMA has direct ties to the attack.
Eagles MMA fighter placed on offender list
As panic continues to grip Dagestan, the identities of the attackers are revealed, and in a shocking revelation, one of the alleged terrorists, Gadzhimurad Khagirov, is a member of Eagles MMA.
These discoveries have undoubtedly opened the door to the case. Now figures like Makhachev and Nurmagomedov are likely facing lengthy interrogations. Russia has long been battling the problem of rising Islamic extremism, which has failed to be contained despite repeated efforts by President Vladimir Putin.
With Eagles MMA's future thus in a tailspin, it's difficult to predict the future, and for now, the MMA world can only hope that their favorite stars come clean.
