Famed boxer Roy Jones, Jr., 55, tragically lost his son to suicide over the weekend. DeAndre Jones died on Saturday, the boxer shared on his social media Monday, eliciting an outpour of support from the boxing community.
“Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took his life on Saturday,” the legendary boxer shared in a post.
Jones asked for privacy as the family grieves. “I am so grateful that God allowed me to come home on Friday night and spend the last night of his life with my family. I know many people are going through hardship right now, but taking your own life is not worth anything. It is God who gives life and it should be God who takes it.”
DeAndre was the youngest of Jones Jr.'s three children.
Jones' reputation as a boxer includes multiple world championship wins at four weight classes: middleweight, super middleweight, light heavyweight and heavyweight. Jones amassed a record of 66 wins (47 KOs) and 9 losses before retiring in 2018.
rest in peace
