Roy Jones Jr. and his family are heartbroken Posthumous DeAndre, the son of boxing legend DeAndre, passed away on Saturday.
Jones Jr. Post to X (formerly Twitter) “Unfortunately, my son DeAndre took suicide on Saturday,” he wrote, announcing the tragic news.
“I am so grateful that God allowed me to go home on Friday night and spend the last night of his life with my family,” wrote the former world champion boxer and sports commentator, 55. “I know a lot of people are going through hardship right now, but it's not worth taking your own life.”
“God giveth and God shall taketh away,” he concluded. “Please respect our privacy as my family and I navigate this loss. Thank you all for your love and support.”
DeAndre was 32 and the youngest of three children (including Roy Jones III and DeShawn Jones) that Jones Jr. had with his wife, Natlin Jones.
Jones Jr. has won world championship titles in four different weight classes, has a record of 66-10 with 47 knockouts and is considered one of the greatest boxers of his generation.
