Georgia Tech will be experiencing increased police presence and traffic disruptions beginning Tuesday, June 25, due to several events on and near campus.
CNN will host a presidential debate on Thursday, June 27, at the WarnerMedia campus on Techwood Drive. Two roads will be temporarily closed from late Wednesday through late Thursday night: 10th Avenue from State Street to Spring Street, and Fowler Street from 6th to 10th Avenue. Vehicles will be detoured from the intersection of 10th and State Streets to 14th Street. Pedestrians will be allowed on west side of 10th Avenue to Holly Street. Additionally, mobile road closures will be in place on I-75/85 Thursday evening, affecting traffic flow.
The Stinger bus system's green route will be rerouted on Thursday due to the road closure. Other routes on campus may also be affected. Drivers are encouraged to avoid the area throughout the week as preparations for the event begin. Road closure times and locations are subject to change.
Georgia Tech's McCamish Pavilion will be the main hub for national and local media for the event. Closure notices have been issued to permit holders along the McCamish Parking Lot (E65) and Fowler Street (E55). Vehicles parked at 10th Street and Home Parking Deck (E66) are also affected. Parking and Transportation Services will contact affected permit holders to provide additional information.
Additionally, the Campus Recreation Center (CRC) will host the Atlanta Swimming Association swim meet June 26-28 at the McCauley Aquatic Center. The CRC parking lot (W10) will be closed to permit holders. Increased vehicle traffic is expected in the area and increased pedestrian traffic is expected at the CRC. The Mercedes-Benz Stadium, located just south of campus, will host the CONMEBOL Copa America USA 2024, featuring a match between the United States and Panama on Thursday, June 27. Kickoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.
FASET sessions will be held throughout the week. Expect heavy traffic around the John Lewis Student Center.
