Gervonta Davis' co-trainer, Kenny Ellis, took to social media to complain about the large number of Vasiliy Lomachenko highlight videos being uploaded to YouTube ahead of the lightweight title unification bout between the two champions scheduled for November.
Overlooking the obvious
Kenny suspects that many of the uploaders are trying to intimidate Tank Davis (30-0, 28 KOs), and he sees this as a calculated attempt to intimidate Tank and his team ahead of his bout with Lomachenko.
He predicts that IBF 135-pound champion Lomachenko (18-3, 12 KOs) “will not make it past the 12th round.”
Interestingly, Kenny ignores the more rational explanation that people who post videos do so to make a profit. Easy cashThey are capitalizing on the massive interest in the Tank vs. Lomachenko fight that will take place within the next four months.
There's a belief among fans that Tank Davis' team intentionally waited until Lomachenko was 36 to fight him, believing they would finally have a better chance of beating him now that he's no longer the young gun that he was when they first started attacking Lomachenko in 2017.
“PHASE 3: LOMACHENKO STUDY: Why are there all of a sudden Lomachenko highlight videos? Is it to intimidate people? He won't be competing against Gervonta Davis on the 12th,” co-trainer Kenny Ellis said on social media, referring to a number of Vasiliy Lomachenko highlight videos that have been uploaded to YouTube by ambitious contributors hoping to cash in on interest in his November bout against Gervonta “Tank” Davis, which he lost.
Instead of wasting his time getting angry over sneak peeks at new YouTube videos of Lomachenko, Kenny Ellis should focus on improving Tank Davis' skills. Tank has lost many rounds in his fights and relies on his own power to win every fight.
He can't do that against Lomachenko because it would mean avoiding Tank's left uppercut, his signature move that gets him out of trouble every time, even against weaker opponents.
If Tank and his team are so afraid of Lomachenko's highlight reel, they should sit out the fight and continue to avoid Loma just like they did with Shakur Stevenson.
Tank team strategy
Seeing how Tank Davis fared against B-class fighter Frank Martin, Lomachenko has a great chance to win this bout by outboxing him. Tank has no boxing skills whatsoever other than power and will just get beaten easily by Lomachenko.
Seeing how incompetent Tank Davis was against Frank Martin, I can see why Mayweather Promotions protected Tank Davis for so many years. They knew Tank was just a power guy and they kept him from being a real threat at 130, 135 and 140 to protect their investment.
