The University of Iowa added Indianapolis offensive lineman Cameron Herron as a key member of its 2025 freshman recruiting class on Sunday afternoon. The Warren Central standout's addition increases the number of known verbal commitments to Iowa this cycle to nine.
Herron (6-foot-4, 275 pounds) participated in Iowa's extensive official visit weekend, which began Friday. He initially planned to make his commitment announcement on July 4 but felt ready by Sunday.
“1000% committed,” he posted to X.
Herron released his top six picks of Iowa, Northwestern, West Virginia, Cincinnati, Boston College and Louisville on May 17. He took an official visit to Evanston last month and visited the Hokies last weekend.
Iowa offered Herron a scholarship last May when assistant Kelvin Bell stopped by Warren Central. Herron visited campus for a game in October and returned for spring practice in late March.
Prep Redzone ranks Herron as Indiana's best offensive lineman of the year and the No. 22 player overall in the state this cycle, while On3 Industry's rankings have him ranked as the 62nd best interior O-lineman nationally among seniors.
Herron's junior year highlight reel shows a strong offensive lineman with room to grow and develop, a player with a high potential who could make a big difference in college.
Iowa State has signed its first commit of the class in in-state lineman Joey VanWetzinga, who could play center. He and Herron could pave the way for Iowa's offense in the future.
