David Avanesyan will challenge IBF welterweight champion Jaron “Boots” Ennis on July 13th at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, but he doesn't rate Ennis as the best fighter he has faced in his career so far.
A career filled with talented people
Avanesyan has fought many talented top fighters but says he wouldn’t put unbeaten Matchroom-promoted “Boots” Ennis at the top of that list, which is understandable given the length of his career.
Born in Armenia, Avanesyan has fought against notable fighters such as:
– Terence Crawford
– Shane Mosley, *44 years old
– Lamont Peterson
– Josh Kelly
– Egidius Kavaliauskas
– Kerman Lejaraga
– Charlie Navarro
– Kaizer Mabuza
Crawford is the only fighter in Avanesyan's 15-year career who could potentially be better than Boots Ennis, but many fans remain skeptical due to the Nebraska native's advanced age.
Fans will get a better idea of whether Boots Ennis is the best fighter Abanethisan has faced when they face off on July 13. If Ennis beats Abanethisan in better fashion than Crawford did, fans will be able to decide for themselves whether he is the best. However, because Abanethisan has been inactive for nearly two years and was brought in as a replacement late in the fight, Ennis will not get full credit for beating him, even if it was by early knockout.
The 35-year-old Avanesyan (30-4-1, 18 KOs) volunteered to be the replacement opponent for unbeaten IBF 147-pound champion “Boots” Ennis (31-0, 28 KOs) after originally scheduled challenger Cody Crowley withdrew due to eye problems.
Avanathan hasn't fought in nearly two years, since being knocked out in the sixth round by WBO welterweight champion Terence Crawford on Dec. 10, 2022, in Omaha, Nebraska, and he's still not happy with how that fight went because of the gloves Crawford was wearing.
Avanesyan denies Ennis top ranking
“Not at the top. I've fought a lot of top-class fights. He's a good boxer. I can't say at this point that Jaron “Ennis” is number one,” David Avanathan told Boxing News when asked if Jaron “Boots” Ennis was the best fighter he faced in his 15-year professional career.
