Seven-time Olympic gold medalist Katie Ledecky will be aiming for a fourth gold medal in the event this summer in Paris, aiming to tie the great Michael Phelps.
The American broke out at age 15 when she won gold in the 800m freestyle at the 2012 London Games.
Her 800m freestyle victories in Rio and Tokyo are among her 10 Olympic medals.
In Paris, she will have a chance to join Phelps as the only swimmer to win four consecutive gold medals in the same event at an Olympic Games.
She made history at the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials in Indianapolis on Saturday, winning the 800-meter freestyle with a commanding victory to become the first woman to win four titles at a single Trials.
The 16-time world record holder in the event, she finished in 8 minutes 14.12 seconds, more than six seconds ahead of the second-placed runner.
This means he will aim to add to his Olympic medal tally in Paris by competing in the 400m freestyle, 800m freestyle and 1500m freestyle, as well as the 4x200m freestyle relay.
“It's time to get back to work. I have to get ready to go to Paris,” she said.
Among the swimmers competing with Ledecky in Paris will be Caleb Dressel, who won five gold medals in Tokyo but is opting out of competing in 2022. He won the 50-meter freestyle on Friday and the men's 100-meter butterfly on Saturday.
Kate Douglas performed well at the Indianapolis Trials, qualifying to compete in the women's 200m individual medley, 200m breaststroke and 100m freestyle.
