Jeff Marek calls Mark Giordano “the perfect Shark.”
Marek and Elliotte Friedman discussed the 40-year-old UFA defenseman's future on the “32 Thoughts Podcast.”
Giordano only appeared in 46 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season and missed the playoffs. The former Calgary Flames captain from 2013-2021 would certainly bring transformational leadership to the San Jose Sharks' locker room and help lead young players like Henry Slan and Shakir Moukamadullin.
According to Kevin McGrann of the Toronto Star, the NHL's oldest player is still interested in playing next season and beyond.
But there's the question of how much game time Giordano has left. The 2019 Norris Trophy winner was the NHL's best defenseman and an all-situation monster in his prime, but he played just 16 minutes, 37 seconds per game last season, his fewest since 2008-09. He was still heavily relied on on the penalty kick, but wasn't a regular on the point guard.
But if Giordano still has some life left in him, he could help the Sharks.

This is the first time in Connor McDavid's career that the Oilers have won despite not getting a shot or point in a game he played in. Prior to tonight, this had only happened seven times (five times as a rookie in 2015-16, against the Flames on March 31, 2018 and against the Canadiens on March 30, 2021).
