Matchroom Boxing announced Saturday that Jack Catterall and Regis Prograis will face off in a 12-round junior welterweight bout on Aug. 24 in Manchester, England.
The bout will mark Catterall's second consecutive match against a former 140-pound champion after England's Catterall (29-1, 13 KOs) gained revenge last month with a unanimous decision victory over Josh Taylor in a rematch.
The performance was the best of the career for the 30-year-old Catterall, who is seeking his first world title shot after losing a controversial split decision to Taylor in February 2022 in his only title fight.
“There have been times in the past where I've just been waiting for a big fight to come along, waiting for a title fight, and it's taken me way off the map,” said Catterall, who is ranked No. 3 by ESPN as a junior welterweight. “I'm not going to do that again. … I'm looking forward to getting in the ring with some great fighters.”
Prograis (29-2, 24 KOs), a New Orleans native, lost his first bout in October 2019 by majority decision to Taylor in London.
The second loss came in a shutout loss to Devin Haney in a title defense in December, and the 35-year-old Prograis will now be looking to bounce back in a bout with high stakes.
“This is a fight I've always wanted,” said Prograis, who is ranked No. 8 by ESPN as a junior welterweight. “We were supposed to fight a few years ago but it never happened. Now is the perfect time.”
“I think Jack is one of the best fighters in the world at 140 pounds. Jack has an ambition to become a world champion and I also have an ambition to become a three-time world champion, so it will be a great fight.”
