Under new head coach DeShawn Foster, the UCLA Bruins have made a big push to recruit in-state players. The club hosted a UCLA Prospect Camp event last Tuesday, and Sydney Dupuis, a promising freshman defensive lineman from Cathedral Catholic in San Diego, recently spoke about her experience leading up to the camp.
In a new conversation with Bruin Report Online's Mike Regaldo, Dupuis discussed his time with defensive line coach Tony Washington and his impressions of the club's first year competing in the Big Ten Conference this fall.
“I met Coach Washington for the first time on June 10 at the Redlands Mega Camp and I could tell right away he was serious and what he was talking about from a football standpoint,” Dupuis said. “He's helped me out and UCLA is one of the schools I'm really interested in so it's been really good just to talk to him.” [in] To take my sports and academic career to the next level. [goes]… It was really big to meet them and hear their stories.”
“I'm really impressed with how they've been able to recruit players, especially local players,” Dupuis said. “This is going to be a big year, the conference realignment is going to be really big … I'm excited to see how they tackle that this season and get after it.”
Ranked as a three-star recruit by 247Sports, Dupuis is considered the No. 138 defensive lineman and No. 108 overall prospect in the state for the class of 2025. He holds offers from a variety of rival programs, including Boise State, San Diego State and UNLV.
