The 2024 college football season is rapidly approaching. Florida State's first game will be in Week 0 on Saturday, August 24th, with conference play beginning immediately in Dublin, Ireland against Georgia Tech. The Seminoles will then return home to take on Boston University on Monday, September 2nd. All eyes will be on the Seminoles as both games will be nationally televised.
National football analyst Phil Steele recently published College Football '24, a magazine some experts call the “Bible of College Football,” and released his preseason predictions for next year. Steele believes the pinnacle of the ACC is a three-team tie for the ACC title with FSU, Clemson and Miami in contention.

The Noles have a lot of room to fill after selecting 10 players in the 2024 NFL Draft, and with stars like All-ACC first-team defensive end Jared Verss gone and Heisman Trophy finalist quarterback Jordan Travis joining the league, FSU will have to rely on the depth of the roster it has built under head coach Mike Norvell and his success in the transfer portal.
FSU will face Clemson in early October, while the Tigers will open the season against Georgia, the team that thrashed Florida State's understrength roster after most of the Seminoles' 13-0 roster was ruled out of the College Football Playoff and therefore opted out of an Orange Bowl appearance in 2023. Barring a rematch depending on how the season plays out, the Florida State-Clemson game will likely determine which team advances to the ACC title game.
The annual rivalry with Miami has always been a wild card, with Florida State winning narrowly 27-20 in Tallahassee last November. This year, Florida State will have to travel to Coral Gables to face the Hurricanes. The game is in late October, but both teams have accessed the NCAA transfer portal in search of new quarterbacks, and how much the offenses have improved could be the deciding factor. UM acquired Washington State transfer Cam Ward, while FSU acquired Oregon State forward DJ Uiagalelei. Miami was 7-6 (3-5 in the ACC) in 2023. They beat Clemson last season, but it remains to be seen if head coach Mario Cristobal has momentum going into his third year at the helm.
