Introductory path to becoming a teacher
Beginning teachers who add endorsements to their initial license must meet the requirements of their license, which include 24 to 36 semester hours of concentration in either music, theater, or dance.
- Teachers with concentration music Music courses require 24 credit hours (12 of which must be advanced courses if adding endorsement to supplementary license or K-12 professional license) and Pass your next PRAXIS exam in Music 5311 by PRAXIS.
- Teachers with concentration theater PRAXIS' Theater 5641 theater course requires 24 credit hours (12 of which must be advanced courses if adding endorsement to a secondary or K-12 professional license) and: You must pass the PRAXIS exam.
- Teachers with concentration dance Dance courses require 24 credit hours (12 of which must be advanced courses if adding endorsement to an adjunct license or K-12 professional license). There is no test for this concentration.
Teachers with an existing license pathway
Teachers who wish to add endorsements to their existing New Mexico teacher license at any level can do one of the following:

Earn certification by the National Board for Professional Education Standards in the Performing Arts in a respected music, theater, or dance concentration.
Accepted Performing Arts Coursework
The Licensing Office will conduct a 24-hour intensive review of coursework in the performing arts, including areas of music, theater and dance. One of those regions.
