The Georgia Bulldogs made the list of the most overrated college football teams since 2010.
There's a lot of excitement in Athens heading into the 2024 college football season, and rightfully so. They return one of the best quarterbacks in the sport, if not the best, from last season's roster, and have a coach in Kirby Smart who is currently considered the top coach in college football. But one preseason article took a different turn when talking about Georgia football.
247 Sports released an article listing the most overrated teams in college football since 2010 and the Duggs were on the list. According to the article, since the year they were on the list, there have been four times when Georgia has started the season ranked inside the top 25 and finished unranked. For these reasons, Georgia made the list. However, it was also noted that Georgia has only accomplished that once under Coach Smart, in his inaugural season at Georgia.
Maybe statistics would classify Georgia as “overrated,” but that certainly hasn't been the case since 2017. Since then, the team has won two conference titles, two national titles, and made three appearances in the College Football Playoff. If those things land them on a list of overrated teams, Georgia fans are likely willing to accept that trade-off on a daily basis.
With Smart at the helm and a new expanded playoff system in place this season, Georgia isn't expected to add to that number anytime soon. The Bulldogs are considered one of the favorites to win this season, and that will be a theme in the city of Athens for the foreseeable future.
