The Bronx Veterans Chamber of Commerce hosted a women's self-defense and martial arts demonstration by master instructor CJ Rivera on June 8. Gonzalo Duran, CEO of Devil Dog USA Inc., also attended.
Duran said the expansion of self-defense classes on behalf of Devil Dog USA and its partners is a response to an increase in attacks against women in New York City. The classes were held at Caldwell Temple in the Bronx.
The women who attended the self-defense workshop were taught a variety of self-defense techniques and also had the opportunity to practice alongside Rivera and his daughter, Katie Rivera.
CJ Rivera showed everyone in attendance how to protect themselves from attacks, such as the one that happened in the Bronx where a 45-year-old woman was attacked by a man who put a belt around her neck. He also spoke about being aware of your surroundings and the dangers of being obsessed with your cell phone.
