Two-time minimumweight world title challenger Leroy “Sensational” Estrada (18-4, 8 KOs) of Panama defeated previously unbeaten Colombian Ruben Mendoza (10-1-1, 9 KOs) by stunning technical knockout at 2:19 of the second round to capture the WBA Fedecaribe title and currently competes in the super flyweight division.
Estrada knocked Mendoza down with a powerful left hook to the jaw. After the eight-second count, the local fighter backed the Colombian against the ropes and landed some powerful combinations, forcing referee Guillermo Pérez to stop the bout. The bout was the main event of an “Alma de Guerreros” card, presented by Sparta Promotions and Rogerio Espinho (Promociones y Eventos del Istmo), with Espinho returning from a 52-month retirement.
Also undefeated was Colombian bantamweight boxer Hernan Alarcón (8-0, 7 KOs), who knocked out local boxer Felix Montenegro (12-10-1, 8 KOs) in 1 minute, 49 seconds of the 10th round to win the WBA Fedecentral belt in front of 1,200 fans at the Combat Center in Panama City.
