Jake Paul has no shortage of opponents, but that doesn't stop him from challenging former UFC star Nate Diaz to a rematch.
“The Problem Child” first faced Diaz in the ring last August, fighting 10 rounds in the Lone Star State with Paul emerging as the winner via unanimous decision. Immediately after the bout, Paul challenged “The Stockton Samurai” to a high-money rematch in MMA under the Professional Fighters League banner.
Despite being promised arguably the biggest payday of his fighting career, Diaz has shown little interest in fighting Paul inside the smart cage.
“Nate Diaz is avoiding me in MMA. He actually [an MMA fight]”It's crazy,” Paul said on a new episode of the BS podcast. “We [the offer] “We've raised it to $15 million. But he doesn't actually want to do that.”
Sean O'Malley, a guest on Paul's podcast, was fairly diplomatic in his response, suggesting that if the match goes well, Paul could have a chance, but if the match goes well, that's another story.
“I don't know how much jiu-jitsu you know,” O'Malley said, “but Nate's a high-level black belt. If he can stay on his feet, there's a 100% chance he can win. If we get to the ground, I think he can get a hold of your neck” (via MMA Junkie).
“I think that's exactly right,” Paul replied. “As long as I don't get put in a guillotine, I win the fight. But even if he's on top, I'm just going to throw him off of me because he has the weakest puncher I've ever fought. I nearly burst out laughing when he was hitting me. No offense, but he has the weakest puncher I've ever sparred or fought in my life.
“I literally haven't said anything, so I think it's funny that he dropped Connor or something, why?”
Jake Paul books fight with Mike Perry ahead of Tyson bout
Jake Paul will return to the boxing ring to face BKFC's current “King of Violence,” Mike Perry, on July 20. The bout will take place at the Amalie Arena in Tampa, Florida, on the same day that Paul was originally scheduled to face former unified heavyweight boxing world champion “Iron” Mike Tyson.
In May, Tyson underwent a medical emergency during a transcontinental flight from Miami. Fortunately, the incident was deemed nothing serious, just an unexplained worsening of symptoms. Still, Tyson was advised to rest for the next few weeks and was unable to train for two months before the fight.
Now, the Paul vs. Tyson bout has been rescheduled to November 15th, allowing Paul to fight “Platinum” in the Sunshine State.
