A year ago, fantasy football managers had a really hard time deciding which Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver to draft and where to get them, and it might be a little easier this time around, but it's not because the draft room is made up of the exact same players.
This offseason, general manager Brett Veach added Marquise “Hollywood” Brown and Xavier Worthy to a team that already featured Rushe Rice coming off a stellar rookie season, and this projected top three compares favorably to last year's initial lineup of Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Kadarius Toney, Skye Moore and Justin Watson. Expect it If someone from the top ranks contributes, Kansas City Expect it We will achieve this in 2024.
Of the Chiefs' current top three, who should be drafted first in fantasy events later this summer? Bleacher Report I believe Brown is a name to go by.
“Worthy is a talented young prospect, but his next move will be his first as a catcher in the NFL,” Davenport wrote. “Rice had a solid rookie year but is facing a personal conduct suspension due to multiple off-field incidents. Brown has the talent, and he's now playing with the best quarterback of his career. Year 6 should be Brown's best season yet.”
Brown is more than half a decade into his career, but his production has been mixed the past three years. He broke out in 2021, his final season with the Baltimore Ravens, when he set career highs in receptions (91), receiving yards (1,008) and games started (16), but then his production declined over his two years with the Arizona Cardinals.
With a healthy, pass-heavy offense, the bar is set high. If Brown has the best year of his career, as Davenport predicts, it would be great for Kansas City, with quarterback Patrick Mahomes just last week praising the offensive line's progress so far.
“He's done a great job,” Mahomes said. “This offense is hard to learn, but I thought he picked it up very quickly and did a great job. And, obviously, you can see the ability. Honestly, I don't know why he's in our position with the talent he has. I know it's going to be a great season for him and take some pressure off other guys. I think it's going to help Travis (Travis Kelce) get open, it's going to help Rashi get open, it's going to help everybody else get open because he's a speed threat that can run routes and do a lot of different things. I'm excited to get him out there in the regular season.”
During the aforementioned 2021 season, Brown scored the 25th most fantasy points at the wide receiver position. In the two years that followed, he was 47th and 52nd, respectively. With training camp approaching, ESPN and Fantasy Pro He's not projected to finish in the top 32 overall in the league, suggesting Kansas City doesn't have a true No. 1 receiver, which is nothing new since the days of Tyreek Hill.
Can Brown turn things around this year and get back to his normal form? Other fantasy experts have given him middling expectations, but Davenport is bullish on the chances.
