Ryan Garcia has officially announced his retirement from boxing.
Garcia (25-0, 20 KOs, 1 loss) defeated Devin Haney (32-0, 15 KOs, 1 loss) in April of this year and won.
After the fight, it was revealed that Garcia had failed a drug test for Ostarine, and while Garcia is currently awaiting a ruling from the NYSAC, he expects the bout with Haney to be declared a “no contest.”
Ryan Garcia said:X' with the following statement:
My mom has cancer
Being sued
My supplements were contaminated
Going through a divorce
For years, I've been constantly criticized online.
Devin wants me to take away my win.
Being attacked by everything
I still love God. He is everything.

“My mom has cancer…I'm being sued…my supplements are tainted…I'm getting divorced…Devin is asking to strip me of my wins…I'm under attack for everything. Boxing is fine without me…but it's a shame, I had fun when I was fighting…and I enjoyed hitting people.”
The 25-year-old continued:
You may see me here and there, but I don't know about boxing.
There's so much corruption, I'm sick of it
Maybe I'll do some acting or singing.
I'm still going to train, but I'm injured and it's over now.
Sadly, I'm a great boxer.
And I entertain and amaze people…

“You may see me out and about but I don't know about boxing. Too much corruption, I'm sick of it… Maybe acting or singing… I'll keep training but I'm injured and everyone's stopped now… It's sad because I'm a great boxer… And I entertain and knock people out… It's sad because I love boxing… I'm praying for everyone and I hope you all have a great life.”
Finally, the announcement:
I am officially retired
— Ryan Garcia (@RyanGarcia) June 19, 2024
“I'm officially retired.”
There are rumors that Ryan Garcia has both mental health and drinking issues, so perhaps taking some time off to address these issues would be a blessing for the young athlete.
Devin Haney’s trainer and father, Bill Haney, offered no sympathy for Garcia, saying in an Instagram video:
“It's no surprise that Ryan Garcia has spoken out about retirement and is not going to stick to his guns within the next 48 hours. Everyone has been protective of him.”
Finally, Haney said:
“In 48 hours, Ryan Garcia will be suspended. And you, the network, the promoters, and all of those who have been trying to protect him… will go down with the ship. Listen carefully to what I have to say.”
Do you think Garcia is really retiring from boxing or is this just a PR stunt?
