Three-time Olympian and recently retired UFC fighter Mark Madsen will try his hand at promoting fights rather than taking part in them.
On Monday, Madsen announced the launch of the Dominance Fighting Championship (DFC), with the first event scheduled to take place on September 21 at KB Hallen in Copenhagen, Denmark.
DFC 1 will take place in his home country, but Madsen is already looking towards the future and even Las Vegas.
“We want to bring world-class entertainment to the heart of Copenhagen and create a show worthy of Las Vegas,” Madsen said at a press conference on Monday. “We believe the market is there and we in Europe deserve this entertainment too.” This should be music to the ears of all the Nordic MMA fans who have been starving since UFC visited Copenhagen in September 2019.
Madsen, 36, retired from mixed martial arts competition in January after losing two straight fights, the first and only loss of his career. He finished with a 12-2 record, including 4-2 at UFC.
In addition to 14 professional fights, Madsen also brings with him a wealth of career experience in wrestling, including three Olympic appearances and a silver medal in 2016. It makes sense that his first DFC signing is Grecon Roman 2019 European Wrestling Championship winner Rybek Bisultanov, who is set to move into mixed martial arts after retiring from wrestling in 2023.
