Iowa football didn't have to travel far for its latest signing, nor did it have to do a ton of research.
Mason Woods, the son of Hawkeye special teams coordinator LeVar Woods, announced his pledge on social media Wednesday afternoon, making the Iowa City West tight end the eighth known verbal pledge program-wide and the third player at his position in the cycle.
Mason Woods (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) chose the Hokies over reported scholarship offers from Kansas, Kansas State and Missouri. He visited Notre Dame, among others.
After getting his opportunity at the University of Iowa a little over a year ago, Mason Woods spoke to HN about it.
“It was a really surreal moment considering my dad played for Coach Ferentz and I've been involved with the program my whole life,” he said at the time.
Prep RedZone Iowa rates Woods as the ninth-best overall state prospect in the class of 2025. The 247 Composite and On3 Industry also have him ranked No. 9.
Woods caught 35 passes for 535 yards last season, and as you can see in his junior highlight video, he also played well on defense.
