LAS VEGAS, Nev. (FOX5) — UNLV football freshman Andre Porter has been named to the National Football Foundation's 2024 Outstanding Team.
Porter, one of only 84 student-athletes named to the team out of 3,500 high school seniors considered, was selected by the NFF Bill Ireland Las Vegas chapter to play for the West Region.
Porter played both defensive back and tight end at Liberty High School in Henderson last season. He was a two-year team captain, had a 3.25 grade-point average and earned all-conference and all-state honors with the Patriots. A legacy signee, both of his parents are UNLV alumni, and his father, Donnell, was a letterman on the Rebel defensive line in the early 1990s.
All team members will play their final high school football season in the 2023-24 school year. Criteria for inclusion on the team include academic achievement, athletic honors, and community involvement. Only one member from each chapter will be recognized, and the award will be given to outstanding scholar-athletes from all high schools covered by the chapter.
“This initiative allows us to shine a national spotlight on some of the most deserving high school student athletes who have been recognized at the local level by our extensive chapter network,” said NFF President Archie Manning. “This honor is one of the most prestigious national awards a high school student athlete can receive. We congratulate all 84 recipients for their success on and off the field, and we salute all of our NFF chapters for continuing to play a vital role in promoting football in their communities.”
Since 1954, NFF chapters have played a vital role in supporting and promoting football at the amateur level while celebrating outstanding local student-athletes. With more than 12,000 members, the nationwide NFF chapter network impacts more than 500,000 student-athletes at 5,000 high schools nationwide each year.
