2024 U-19 World Boxing Championships to be held in Colorado
The 2024 U-19 World Boxing Championships will be held from October 25 to November 5, 2024 at the Pueblo Convention Center in Colorado, USA.
The tournament, featuring 17- and 18-year-old boxers, will be the first-ever World Boxing Championships and will feature 10 weight classes for both men and women.
All World Boxing member federations were eligible to participate in the tournament, to be held in Colorado, through an open bidding process. USA Boxing's application was deemed the best and was unanimously approved by World Boxing's Executive Committee.
Tyson Lee, chairman of the USA Boxing board of directors, said: “USA Boxing is honored to have been selected to host World Boxing's first ever World Championships. As an affiliate of the World Boxing Federation, we look forward to hosting the next generation of elite boxers and delivering high-quality competition that puts boxers first and ensures the integrity of the sport on the field.”
World Boxing President Boris van der Vorst added: “Hosting our inaugural World Championships marks a significant milestone and we are pleased that it will be held in the home of USA Boxing, which has been a staunch supporter of World Boxing since its inception and has played a pivotal role in the development and growth of the organisation.”
“World Boxing is committed to delivering a quality competition schedule that gives boxers opportunities and we are confident that USA Boxing will deliver a top-class event that will provide a fantastic platform for under-19 boxers from our member federations to showcase their skills and further develop as elite athletes.”
The 2024 U-19 World Boxing Championships will mark the second time USA Boxing has hosted a world boxing tournament, following the World Boxing Cup: USA Boxing International Invitational Tournament held at the same venue in Colorado in April 2024.
World Boxing will launch in April 2023 with the aim of ensuring boxing remains at the heart of Olympic competition. On 7 May 2024, World Boxing will hold its first meeting with the IOC, marking the start of a formal collaboration between the two organisations with the aim of establishing a path for boxing to remain an Olympic sport.
World Boxing currently has 29 member national federations spanning all five continents competing in international boxing. More information about World Boxing can be found at www.worldboxing.org.
