On March 1, 2024, nearly 400 participants from across the Washington Conference gathered at Auburn Adventist Academy to shine at Arts Fest.
At 9 a.m., the campus buzzed with energy as attendees embarked on a day of rehearsals for the Vespers concert later in the evening. Rainier Auditorium became a gallery of creativity, with various works of art on display and the stage buzzing with performances by bands, choirs, and orchestras.
This year's theme is “Shining”. “We wanted our students to be filled with the light of Christ and shine in the darkness,” said Wilma Bing, Washington Conference assistant superintendent.
This theme served as a guide for participants, inspiring them to illuminate the world with their unique talents. The artwork and musical performances of uplifting songs like “This Little Light of Mine” and “(You Are) Amazing” reflected the theme and inspired performers and audience alike.
A video featuring the students was shot and edited to capture the essence of the day. Students shared whether they are morning or night owls and how they see others shining the light of Jesus.
Arts Fest held every year — None in 2020 — This talk by the Washington Conference Education Department holds a special place in the hearts of attendees. Michelle Wachter, Washington Conference vice president of education, said: It's a celebration of creativity, friendship and community. It provides an opportunity for students to gather in a common space and let their artistic talents shine. ”
ArtsFest not only fosters creativity, but also fosters connections between students and forges new friendships. “We see students rehearsing for the evening Vespers concert and practicing their skills under the guidance of clinicians. But beyond rehearsals, we see students reuniting with old friends and making new ones. There is an atmosphere of joy and camaraderie as we create this,” Watcher said. Sharing your love of music and art brings smiles and creates memories that will last a lifetime. ”
AAA's Arts Fest not only celebrates the artistic talents of our students, but also proves the power of community and the transformative potential of creativity. In a world often filled with hardship, events like ArtsFest remind us of the eternal light of Jesus that resides within each of us, waiting to be shared with the world.
