Retired UFC veteran and Olympic silver medalist Mark O. Madsen is stepping into the promotional ranks.
The 39-year-old wrestler and fighter announced on Monday that he is launching his own mixed martial arts organization called Dominance Fighting Championship, with the first card already confirmed for September 21 at KB Hallen in Copenhagen, Denmark.
The promotion's launch is undoubtedly an opportunity to bring more MMA to Scandinavian countries such as Denmark and Sweden, but Madsen also envisions further expansion into Europe in the future.
“We want to bring world-class entertainment to the heart of Copenhagen and create a show worthy of Las Vegas,” Madsen said at a press conference on Monday. “We believe there is a market and we in Europe deserve this entertainment.”
Dominance FC is Madsen's first personally owned organization, but he has worked with Cage Warriors before when he helped promote a past event in Denmark in 2019.
Madsen, who announced his retirement in January, is looking to attract a lot of local talent but also plans to bring in fighters from around the world to fill out the rosters for the various shows he will be promoting across Europe. He has also worked closely with manager Ali Abdelaziz, who Madsen said will help him get acclimated to his new company.
In addition to the first show scheduled for September, Madsen also announced his first fighter signing, fellow Greco-Roman wrestler and European Championship gold medalist Rybek Bizultanov, who will make his professional debut on the first Dominance FC card in September.
In addition to his wrestling background, Bisultanov regularly has UFC star Khamzat Chimaev as one of his main training partners.
Madsen is expected to announce further bouts for the debut DFC card in the coming weeks, including Bisultanov’s first opponent.
