Orlando city officials announced this week that Roberto Lopez, who has served as the city's deputy chief information officer for the past two years, will become the new citywide chief information officer.
The city of Orlando said in a LinkedIn post on Tuesday that Lopez will become the city's top technology officer next week. Lopez joined Orlando City Hall in 2001 as a technology business analyst, then served as computer operations manager for 16 years before becoming deputy CIO in 2022.
“Roberto has served as Deputy Chief Information Officer for the past two years and has been a valued member of our team. With nearly 23 years of dedicated service to the City and several leadership roles within the IT department, Roberto is a great fit for this role,” the city's LinkedIn post reads.
Lopez replaces former Orlando CIO Rosa Akhtarcavalli, who announced her retirement in June after 32 years with the city.
“I have had the privilege of working with and being mentored by some incredible people, but two in particular stand out: Alberto Pavón early in my career and more recently Rosa Actarcavalli,” Lopez said in a LinkedIn post announcing his promotion.
