Ashley Sessa, a graduate of Episcopal Academy in Newtown Square, is the youngest player selected for the U.S. Olympic women's field hockey team for the 2024 Paris Games.
Episcopal Academy graduate Ashley Sessa is the youngest player on the U.S. women's field hockey team for the 2024 Paris Olympics, reports Isabella DiAmore. Philadelphia Inquirer.
Sessa, 19, of Schwenksville, was named a member Tuesday.
“I'm so happy. I'm so excited,” Sessa said. “It really means everything. It's every kid's dream, they've worked so hard for it.”
Sessa, a forward/midfielder, played one season at the University of North Carolina, where he won an NCAA title last year.
She plans to transfer to Northwestern University this fall.
Sessa has been playing field hockey for the Chester County WC Eagles since she was 8. At age 14, she was selected for the U.S. Field Hockey Junior National Team.
Becoming an Olympian was always her goal.
“The effort definitely paid off and I would do it again for this result,” Sessa said.
“When I was playing hockey with the WC Eagles it was really hard. I missed a lot of holidays with my family because of the showcases, but now it all makes sense and everything has come back to normal.”
