Rochester Hills, Michigan – There was a quick response Saturday to a report of multiple people shot at the splash pad at Brooklands Plaza. Oakland County.
Oakland County Sheriff's deputies arrived on scene within minutes of the call.
“Thankfully, we had a new technology called Live911. Rochester Hills “The substation heard the actual 911 call before notifying the dispatch center and immediately dispatched on their own,” Oakland County Sheriff Michael Bouchard said.
HigherGround, the company that develops Live911, says the technology came to market in 2020 and is used by more than 130 law enforcement agencies nationwide.
When a 911 call comes in, Live911 simultaneously transmits it to emergency responders.
Departments that use this technology no longer have to wait for a call for service to be sent over the radio.
In situations like the mass shooting that occurred in Rochester Hills on June 15, a quick response is even more important.
“In life-or-death situations, every second counts, which is why we brought Live911 into our operations,” Bouchard said.
The Oakland County Sheriff's Department began using Live911 about a year and a half ago.
