Could “The Sauce” add some spice to the heavyweight division? Former WBO cruiserweight champion and recent Bridgerweight champion Lawrence Okolie seems to have some intriguing options at the moment. The 31-year-old has expressed interest in Deontay Wilder challenging for the Bridgerweight belt, and the 20-1 (15) Okolie has also said he sees a move up to the big man league in his sights.
Okolie, who won the bridgeweight belt from Lukasz Rozanski in the first round last month, revealed in an interview with IFL TV that he's particularly interested in fighting Joseph Parker. As we all know, Parker is in great form – the former WBO heavyweight champion has beaten Deontay Wilder and Jean Zierei – but Okolie thinks he has a shot at beating the New Zealander and feels he has the power, or “source,” to stop Parker.
“There’s talk of some big heavyweight fights that I’m interested in,” Okolie said. “You can’t just go after the top guys straight away, and Joseph Parker is the best. [ranked heavyweight] Current crop [that I could fight]I'm 31 now and it's time for me to fight big, dangerous guys. I think I can knock anyone out in boxing. I don't want to be the one who might not fight me and him. But when I saw him fight, [Parker]I believe it has enough punch to get the job done.”
Parker is a guy who, as we all know, will fight anyone. Okolie is 6'5″ and looks built to compete at heavyweight. This fight, while completely unexpected, could be one of the highlights of the year.
Parker vs. Okolie – who will win and how?
There are rumours that this fight, or a completely different one for both men, will take place on a massive card at Wembley Stadium in September, and who knows what surprises that card has in store for us!
