A University of Southern Mississippi football player has died in a shooting that occurred at an apartment in Hattiesburg. A shooting investigation is underway following the death of 21-year-old Marcus “MJ” Daniels Jr., according to Forest County Coroner Lisa Klem. The coroner said officers responded to a call at 219 Ivy Row Circle around 10 p.m. Tuesday and discovered Daniels' body. Daniels, a George County High School graduate, transferred from the University of Mississippi and played cornerback for the Golden Eagles. Daniels' body was sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy, according to the coroner. All three are currently being held in the Forest County Jail.

According to the coroner, officers responded to a call at approximately 10 p.m. Tuesday at 219 Ivy Row Circle, where the body was discovered.
The George County High School graduate played cornerback for the Golden Eagles after transferring from the University of Mississippi.
The coroner said Daniels' body has been sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
“The University of Southern Mississippi and its athletic department mourn the loss of MJ Daniels, whose life was lost Tuesday night in an incident off campus,” university officials said in a statement Wednesday.
