A day after a number of Ghanaian athletes qualified for the semi-finals and finals of their mixed martial arts weight classes, the country was guaranteed a large medal haul.
The rules of mixed martial arts competitions state that fighters who advance to the semifinals are guaranteed at least a bronze medal, even if they lose.
Ghana's William Naughty opened the day with a bronze medal despite losing to Nigeria's Emmanuel Ewe in the men's 65kg semi-final.
Felix Kotka also won the silver medal in the men's 56.6kg final, losing to Mauritius' Blessing Sukufu.
In the women's category, Nigeria's Joy Obanla defeated Abubakari Winnie in the 65.8kg category, denying the Ghanaian gold medal.
However, there was another silver medal for Ghana after Elizabeth Boakye lost to Nigeria's Kadijat Idowu in the women's 52.2kg competition.
Meanwhile, Ghana's official medal count remains at five, with female weightlifter Winifred Ntumi winning three medals and swimmer Abeiku Jackson also picking up two medals.
