Conor McGregor has broken his silence after being ruled out of UFC 303 due to injury.
McGregor was originally scheduled to make his long-awaited return to the Octagon at UFC 303 on June 29 at T-Mboile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
However, it was confirmed on Thursday that McGregor will miss the fight due to injury.
Dana White said in a video that the new main event will be Alex Pereira vs. Jiri Prochazka for the light heavyweight title.
The Irishman posted on social media: “It is very tough to miss my planned return match. I sustained an injury prior to the press conference and my recovery has taken longer than I had time for.”
“The decision to postpone the fight was not made lightly and was made in consultation with my doctors, UFC and my team.”
McGregor continued, “The fans and my opponent both expect my best in this fight and we will do our best! Thank you for all the messages of support. I am doing well and I am confident I will be back!”
McGregor last fought back in July 2021, when he lost to American Dustin Poirier.
“The fight was postponed after McGregor sustained the injury just before a press conference in Dublin last week,” said mixed martial arts journalist Ariel Helwani.
“UFC, McGregor, Paradigm and everyone involved did everything in their power to save this fight. At first it didn't work, then it didn't work, then it worked, then it finally didn't work. The fight was officially called off just under 48 hours ago.”
