Five Sansom Martial Arts athletes achieved podium success at the WUKF Scottish National Karate Championships in Dundee.
On June 1st, 14 elite athletes from Sansom took part in a competition at the Regional Performance Centre in Dundee.
More than 700 athletes from across the UK and Europe took part in the event, with the young Sansom Martial Arts team cementing Moray's reputation for martial arts.
Poppy Douglas (13) from Lossiemouth and Katie Burley (8) from Elgin won gold medals, while Sebastian Sansom (13) from Lossiemouth won silver.
Bronze medals were won by Kara Louise King (16) from Elgin and Blake Sansom (13) from Lossiemouth.
Master Lee Sansam said: “I was moved by everyone’s performance.
“We are a young and relatively inexperienced team but are quickly gaining attention for our fighting spirit and exceptional skill.
“Our unique training, which combines karate, kickboxing and taekwondo, is clearly paying off.
“The support from our visiting fans, some of the loudest in the arena, was incredible and reinforced our strong family spirit, helping all our players perform.”
A week earlier, more than 300 students and supporters from Forres, Dufftown, Kinross, Keith and Elgin gathered at Lossiemouth Town Hall for the Spring SMA Championships.
These biennial championships aim to pit students against each other in their age group and build resilience and self-confidence.
Former Olympian and head trainer Damon Sansom said: “This was an opportunity for our junior and intermediate pupils to meet new friends from all the clubs, enjoy sport and, above all, understand that participation and performance are more important than winning.”
“At Sansam Martial Arts we encourage fearlessness within our clubs and help young people thrive amid the pressures of social media and peer influence.
“We are incredibly proud of all our students and thank their parents for their unwavering support.
“These tournaments will also provide an opportunity to unearth new talent for SportScotland's award-winning youth development programmes, potentially paving the way for players to international and Olympic teams.”
