Belal Muhammad doesn't think highly of UFC middleweight champion Dricus du Plessis' skills.
Du Plessis (21-2 MMA, 7-0 UFC) called Muhammad a loser for saying UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev could beat him, and Muhammad slammed du Plessis and his skill.
“They asked me, 'Are you going to fight Islam?' and I said, 'No, I'm not going to fight Islam,' but I think Islam wants to be a double champion so I could fight du Plessis right now and beat him,” Muhammad said on his podcast, “Remember The Show.”
“I'm sticking to that idea. I think he can do it. I was trying to be gentle but to be honest, du Plessis is terrible. Skill-to-skill, I would outclass du Plessis but I don't think he's that good. I think Islam will outclass him, beat him in the grappling and take him to the ground.”
Muhammad (23-3 MMA, 14-3 UFC) will face welterweight champion Leon Edwards (21-3 MMA, 13-2 UFC) in the main event of UFC 304 at Co-op Live on July 27 in Manchester, England.
Du Plessis had not previously been a subject of Muhammad's interest, but now he is.
“Islam is saying I can beat you and he's like, 'Yeah, you're a loser, you don't have any fans,'” Muhammad continued. “You're fighting me now. That's why I beat Leon. If he beats (Israel) Adesanya, the stage is set for this fight.”
“I was trying to be good, but Dricus is no good. If he beats Leon, he'll have the easiest path to double champion.”
I tried to be the good guy, but Driskell is no good. Beating Leon would be the easiest path to becoming a double champion https://t.co/kNVOE4qwJF
