MILFORD, Conn. (WTNH) — Milford has a new state-of-the-art recovery facility for orthopedic care for high-tech procedures such as hip and knee replacement surgeries. The hospital is part of Bridgeport Hospital and the Yale New Haven Health System.
In some ways, the unit is more like a hotel room than a hospital unit: the rooms are equipped with necessary medical equipment and foldable furniture for visitors.
Dr. Amit Rahaf is leading this collaborative program.
“Having surgery is a bit of a scary event, so we want to make it more homely, more welcoming, more comfortable for patients when they come here,” Lahav said.
Bedside tablets, giving patients easier access to assistance and technology, are just one example of new patient-facing technology.
“Essentially, it's a tablet at your fingertips,” Lahav says, “that gives you access to everything in the room.”
From alerting nurses to changing channels, everything is accessible to patients from the tablet. Patients can also adjust the temperature in their room and raise or lower the window blinds.
Lahav said the latest technology is not just being introduced in the recovery unit but also in the surgical area.
“We are advanced certified in hip and knee replacement surgery by the Joint Commission and provide the highest standard of care for hip and knee replacement surgery,” Lahav said.
