X Defiant is definitely a game to keep an eye on heading into its first season. Ubisoft has been quick to respond to player feedback and introduce changes to create a more level playing field. A recent patch aimed at reducing spammy crouch-jumping a bit and has been generally well-received, but some players aren't happy.
For those who don't know what bunny hopping is, it's a way to make your character's movements unpredictable by crouching and jumping while still being able to land shots in an FPS gaming environment. In XDefiant, the game immediately allowed players to perform such moves. The latest update nerfed bunny hopping somewhat, introducing a penalty that makes it harder to aim the further the player jumps.
While some fans are celebrating the news, others aren't happy about it being rolled out. Developer Patrick 'ACHES' Price took to X, formerly Twitter, to explain why these changes are in effect, focusing on ADS (Aim Down Sights) as the mechanic that will be affected.
“Those of you who played the closed beta a year ago may remember the ADS sway penalty for spamming jumps or crouches,” the post reads. “Our philosophy is very simple: we want all movement mechanics to be available to all players… but keep in mind that too much of a good thing is not a good thing.”
The post then goes on to detail how this ADS penalty occurs: “Once you reach a minimum number of inputs, weapon sway (for ADS) and spread (for hipfire) are added and continually worsen until you reach a maximum,” it reads. “Three inputs, spaced one second apart, can be made without penalty. Every time you start a jump the timer refreshes, and making a fourth jump while the timer is still running will incur the penalty.”
Overall, the reaction to the information presented in the post has been positive on the game's subreddit and in replies. That said, feedback has been directed at other aspects of the game, with players raising issues with bullets not seeming to be recognized upon impact, causing enemies to appear to take much more damage than they should.
