Malmsten has a deep connection to swimming. Tommy and Margaretta Malmsten founded the Swedish company in 1974. Tommy, a former competitive swimmer and Sweden's national team coach, combined his love of swimming with his expertise as an engineer to develop equipment for the sport. Malmsten has stayed true to its roots and remains a family-oriented company providing swimmers with great products. Mikael Orn swam on Tommy's team and won a bronze medal at the 1984 Los Angeles Games. Mikael (Mike if you see him on deck) is Malmsten's representative servicing the Americas, while Mike will be on the team preparing and supplying lane lines for the 2028 Los Angeles Games.

Malmsten was founded in Phoenix, Arizona in 2020 by former swimmers Mikael Orne and Simon Percy.
Mikael and Simon both swam at Arizona State University under the coaching of Ron Johnson. They have both pursued different career paths and are now teaming up at Malmsten. Mikael was one of Tommy Malmsten's most successful swimmers, swimming at Arizona State University under the coaching of Ron Johnson from 1980 to 1984. He was the 1983 NCAA champion in the 200 yard freestyle and a bronze medalist at the 1984 Olympics.
Mikael brings extensive experience as an IBM executive to his leadership position at Malmsten Inc. He is a hands-on business leader with a proven track record of innovation leading to market expansion and patents.
Simon swam for the New Zealand national team from 1990 to 1994, competing at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, the 1991 World Championships and the Barcelona Olympics in 1992. Simon swam at ASU from 1991 to 1994, representing the university at the NCAAs and being named an All-American and Academic All-American. He graduated in 1994 with a B.S.
Simon has coached swimming since 1994 alongside his business career, returning to Arizona State University as an assistant coach from 2006 to 2011. When the financial crisis of 2008 forced ASU to make cuts to its men's swimming program, Simon worked with Mikael Orne and other alumni to secure funding to ensure the future of men's swimming at ASU. Today, men's swimming is thriving under head coach Bob Bowman, a unique feat in the world of swimming.
