Milwaukee Bucks All-Star point guard Damian Lillard's love of boxing is no secret around the NBA, but after a video of him working out was shared on social media, fans shared their reactions to Dame's non-basketball training method.
Lillard's love for boxing dates back to his childhood when he would watch important boxing matches with his family. This exposure to boxing at an early age nurtured his passion for the sport and now considers watching boxing his favorite sport.
He identified so much with the boxers' fighting spirit that he seamlessly integrated boxing into his offseason training, helping him develop into one of the NBA's most competitive players. During his 11 seasons with the Portland Trail Blazers, the former Rookie of the Year averaged 25.2 points, 37 percent three-point shooting, 4.2 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.
Lillard recently voiced his opinions on various fights, including the upcoming boxing match featuring Tyson Fury, Gervonta Davis and Frank Martin, and stated his desire to go into boxing management after his NBA career, due to concerns about how fighters are treated when they take high risks.
Milwaukee Bucks fans have mixed reactions to Damian Lillard's boxing training session
Lillard's offseason began earlier than expected after the Indiana Pacers were eliminated early from the playoffs, and a video posted to Instagram showing him training with a boxing program has sparked mixed reactions from fans online.
Some fans have joked that Lillard is training like Golden State Warriors guard Draymond Green to gain more physical strength on the court, but many support the Bucks guard's efforts.
It remains to be seen if his boxing training will pay off once the season begins, but either way, it's great to see the All-Star guard putting his love of boxing to good use as the Bucks prepare for their return later this year.
