Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson once Saidthe delay is not denied.
That's something Indiana Fever star rookie Caitlin Clark is experiencing early in her WNBA career: The No. 1 overall pick confirmed Sunday that she was not included on the 12-player roster for the U.S. women's basketball team for the Paris Olympics.
During Indiana University's practice on Sunday, Fever coach Christy Sides explained that Clark responded perfectly to being sidelined.
“…case [Clark] “I thought that was great that they said, 'Coach, they woke up a monster,'” Said said. Said.
Clarke also spoke to reporters, praising the players heading to Paris and saying he would be watching the game.
“I'm excited for the girls that are on the team,” Clark said. “I know this is the most competitive team in the world, and I know it would have been fine if I was on the team or not. I'm excited for them.”
“I'll be rooting for them to win the gold medal. I was a kid who grew up watching the Olympics. It'll be fun to watch them compete.”
Clarke also said he was informed in advance by phone that he had not been selected.
“They called me and let me know before it all came out and it was really a sign of respect on their part and I appreciate it,” Clark said. “They did the same thing with every girl that made the team and every girl that didn't make the team. There are a lot of athletes in the Olympic pool. I wasn't the only one they had to call. They had to make quite a few calls.”
The 12-player roster reportedly includes Ace Wilson, Breanna Stewart, Sabrina Ionescu, Napheesa Collier, Kaalia Copper, Alyssa Thomas, Brittney Griner, Jackie Young, Diana Taurasi, Jewel Loyd, Kelsey Plum and Chelsea Gray.
As a member of the U.S. national team, Clarke is eligible to be called up as a replacement if one of the 12 players is unable to play.
If not, Clarke will have a chance to compete at the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles.
