The first deadline for entries to the U.S. Olympic Swimming Trials has passed and the first round of psychological testing has been announced, but there is a second deadline for “late entries” on Monday, June 10th.
The only thing that can change at this point is the new qualifiers/qualifiers that weren't there before, and on Friday night the Missouri Tigers took full advantage of that. 2 new qualifiers right before.
The Hail Mary night began with the men's 400m individual medley. Matthew Mortenson She swam 4:23.87, which was under the qualifying standard of 4:25.19.
Mortenson, who will be a sophomore, recorded a personal best time of 4 minutes, 26.22 seconds at the 2023 March regional meet in Indianapolis while in high school.
He came close to that time in May with a 4:26.60 at the Atlanta Classic, but tapered hard on Friday night.
He made progress across the board and built a big lead over the standard, closing out the gap by about a second and a half in the final 100 metres.
