Dominick Reyes is hoping to get back to his best at UFC on ESPN 57.
Reyes (12-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) will face Dustin Jacoby (19-8-1 MMA, 7-5-1 UFC) in Saturday's co-main event (ESPN/ESPN+) at the KFC Yum! Center in Louisville, Kentucky.
Reyes was forced to withdraw from his UFC on ESPN 54 bout in March against Carlos Ulberg after being diagnosed with deep vein thrombosis (a blood clot) in his leg. The former title challenger, who once put Jon Jones in a difficult position, will be looking to end a four-fight losing streak against Jacoby.
“The UFC light heavyweight division is all about performance,” Reyes said at media day on Wednesday, “and I know I have what it takes to come back to the top. Anyone in this division has a chance to pick up a couple of wins, but it's one of the toughest divisions when it comes to being one punch away from being over.”
“… I was actually thinking about this the other day and I was like, 'Man, I've won six straight fights at light heavyweight in the UFC. That's amazing.' And it just went right back into place. I went back to being that style of fighter. That's what Dustin wanted and that's what he's going to get.”
Jacoby will also be looking to bounce back after losing three of his past four games, and Reyes has noticed some key trends in Jacoby's play that he needs to be wary of.
“He's very tough. He's not an easy guy to beat,” Reyes said. “He's very athletic. He moves well, he's good on his feet. He's constant pressure. I like to come out strong late in the fight. That's what I like the most about him is coming out strong at the end. So if I get that far, I've got to be on my toes, because that's when he's going to take advantage of your mistakes.”
